Aging and Elderly Issues

Aging and elderly populations begin to have unique mental health challenges as their careers come to a close, as their active involvement in the community begins to wane, as many of their social and family ties become disjointed, and as their physical health begins to decline. In some, elder abuse like isolation and abandonment by their children and other caretakers can take their toll as well.

As a result of these difficult challenges, it is vital that elderly individuals find and recreate a healthy purpose and sense of joy in their lives. Furthermore, it is up to family, friends, and those of us in the helping professions to assist them. We have worked with many advanced-age individuals, and have helped them to search for and discover renewed purpose and continued enrichment in their lives. We have assisted them with finding alternatives to pharmaceutical pain management, making the transition to retirement, finding new and meaningful things to do within the community, and building and maintaining relationships with old and new friends alike.
